A+RISE was developed by three-time Teacher of the Year and administrator, Evelyn Arroyo, Research-based Instructional Strategies for English Language Learners (ELLs) empowers K-12 teachers to quickly and easily get to the “how” of improving the academic language and content knowledge of English language learners and of all students. A+RISE integrates three critical, research-based approaches to instruction:
- brain-based learning
- high-yield instructional strategies, and
- current language acquisition theory
A+Rise hired Fig Leaf Software to create the entire web-based learning system. A+Rise was subsequently purchased by Pearson, the world’s leading PreK-20 educational publishing company, dedicated to working with educators to change the way America thinks.
Fig Leaf Software kicked-off the project with a design and functional discovery session which resulted in detailed specification documents that included significant wireframes. The project team identified the Adobe technolgoies to be used and created the new system based on the detailed specifications. The system supports a variety of scenarios for taking a user to their teacher home page and viewing resources. The system supports global search and prompts users with additional resources, training videos, and supplemental content to help each teacher succeed with their ELL students. The system has a communication board to ensure easy communication between teachers and students.
The following teacher activities are scenarios supported by the system:
- Build class:
- Invite students to join class:
- Manage classes:
- Search, view and evaluate student resources:
- Assign student resources:
- Communicate with student(s) and families
Fig Leaf Software created an easy-to-use online software program. The A+RISE® Standards2Strategy (S2S) quickly distills 30 years of research into effective instructional strategies to help teachers instantly align the A+RISE strategies to state or national standards based on the students’ level of English language proficiency. A+RISE S2S is aligned to the English Language Proficiency Standards for WIDA* (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment), California, Florida, and Texas.
